Nina's Blog

It's been a long time since my last blog post, time moves really fast when you have kids and especially when you are trapped in your home for months upon months due to a global pandemic.  My creative side was put on hold for a while but my love for fashion never goes away.  Just this morning my husband was on Facetime with his best friend and when I popped my head in to say hello he said why are you so dressed up? My response was I have to be on Zoom all day with my kids and rather not look at myself looking a mess.  For me putting on my earrings and a cute necklace and a little makeup gets me ready for my day. So for all the moms don't forget about yourself, you of course can be comfortable in your own home but how about adding a cute necklace or earrings to your tee shirt and sweats look or to your tank and jeans, it may help you feel like the fierce mama you have always been and always will be!!!!

So last week in celebration of Mother's Day I took the week off from my blog but the whole time I couldn't wait to get back to talk about more ways to be inspired by fashion and where to find those inspirations.

Here's a little secret about me, I LOVE TO WATCH TV, whether it's reality tv, sitcoms, drama, police shows you name it I love it and I love the fashion in all of it.  I often pay attention to the smallest details in the many actresses outfits and it often inspires and even influences my choices. For instance below is an image of Mariska Hargitay on Law and Order SVU, I love her layered necklaces and often like to layer my own pieces.

Each week I can't wait to see what Taraji P. Henson is wearing on Empire and while her outfits can be outlandish a lot of the individual pieces of her outfits are fierce. Check her out in a scene from Season 2 where she visits her ex in prison.

So ladies you can find inspiration anywhere just don't be afraid to apply that inspiration to your world.

This month has been Autism Awareness Month and I want to dedicate this last blog of the month to my oldest son who is on the spectrum.  Each day he teaches and inspires me to be the best Mommy and while many days are not easy I am blessed to call him my son.

I wake up and pick out my clothes and accessories always wanting to make him proud of his mommy.  As a mommy I also want to send a shout out to all the mommy's out there since Mother's Day is right around the corner and let you all know that you are beautiful on the inside and out and even when you don't feel appreciated know you are.

Check out some new items that are coming soon, these pastel and gold pieces add a little color while being subtle enough to wear with tons of your favorite go to outfits.

Thursday, April 21st will forever be imbedded in my mind as the day we lost one of the truly inspirational icons in music Prince.  He was not only a musical superstar but he had a true fashion style all his own.

In both images above he wears his signature color purple, my favorite color. I've always loved his fearlessness to dress in a way that was truly like no one else. So today April 22nd I pay homage to him by wearing a pair of purple skinny jeans and some purple accessories. Maybe you can add some purple to your wardrobe as well. Check out the pretty purple earrings available in the shop.

This week my passion for fashion was reignited by watching the documentary "Iris" about the fashion icon/collector Iris Apfel, which by the way if you love fashion it's a must see and can be seen on Netflix.

What was so inspiring to me was how she made fashion fun. She liked everything from high end designers to things she could find for a few dollars at a flea market or swap meet.

In both of these images of Iris she layers lots of pieces and I love her use of different textures and colors.  While most of us don't have the guts to do what she does, we can take a note from her and layer a few of our favorite pieces.

How about layering a couple of Movements bracelets like the ones below:

and I might even add these:

Bottom line is don't forget to have fun with fashion just like Iris.

Spring and Summer time are my favorite fashion seasons, I am able to play with dresses, skirts, shorts and pants, and the choices of shoes seems endless.  This week in sunny So Cal we had some days that had me ready to head to the beach but instead I was heading to pre-school drop off so I wore one of my favorite summer skirts.

This picture is almost 4 years old but the skirt is always in style with its delicately embroidered flowers. It has an ethnic vibe as if you purchased it from a little latino market in Mexico or South America.

I paired this skirt with some pretty chandelier earrings with colored beads and wood pieces.

Both the skirt and earrings are Movements Items, the earrings are no longer available but if you like the skirt it will be coming to the website soon.
